I have a mini phal with only 2 small seedling leaves that are both very dehydrated, but still green. It only has one root that’s maybe 3 cm long. I’ve got it potted in sphagnum moss that I’m keeping moist. Do I fertilize it? Do I keep it in regular phal lighting or should it be kept in different lighting?

Good morning. I trust you all well. Thank you for sharing. Now I can replant my orchid. I have quite a few stems but it's a bit white, the flower ball is light brown and I'm worried 😟. I see a new green stem came out. Will the white change or bloom? It's been sitting in the same spot to not get too much sun.

I got orchids that are 3 plants in 3 plastic cups in 1 clay pot; flowers fell off, stems r browning, some leaves have fallen, etc. I need to repot, but can I or should I repot them in one clay pot or in 3 separate clay pots? Please help! I think they are unhappy and/or dying! This was a very special gift

I'm a fairly new Orchid Mom, I'm on year 2. I had a wild dream of growing a Vanilla Orchid in my very warm bathroom since I'm not in a proper growing zone, I'm in California's center valley, 9b. I figured my Vanilla sproutlet needed some Orchid sister's to keep her company, so I purchased a few here & there at Home Depot and grocery stores. One recently got a keiki growing off the mother, I looked online and didn't see any keikis growing like mine; I now know from your video it was a Basil keiki. She did also have a terminal spike (I just learned what it was from your videos) out the side of the crown but not through the very top center. Well, she recently withered away. My fiance thinks I over watered, but after watching your video, I know now she probably just had bad genetics. I really wish I saw your video before we lost her. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to the internet world!!

I sprayed my orchids with superthrive and they all burned :( a lot of black parts maybe they didnt like that

Hi Danny, yours definitely is doing better than mine. Mine managed to grow a new leaf but for some reason didn't grow new roots, old one died off and it was all downhill from there. I do want to try again because I discovered self watering pots is the only way to grow in my climate but I was looking at the parentage and it's 25% Phal. pulcherrima which says needs more light than other phals to flower better. I don't know if you already know that so I hope it helps.

I had a beautiful orchid collection. My orchids went through a lot with me learning how to care for them. I had orchids that practically died but during time of just letting nature take its course i saw a few revive themselves and they lived. I learned names climate what to use for media and I came to your channel almost everyday to learn. Just the other day I noticed 2 orchids that were alive a growing on this small tree I put it on. I got very happy and I was goi g to do a video so others can learn what I did that orchids are very resilient plants and they really fight hard to stay alive. Well. I went outside today to check on these 2 orchids and the branch that I put them on was cut down by the maintenance man who cuts all the plants bushes and trees down to nothing and never lets them grow. My orchids are gone and I was upset and very sad. This was a great learning process for me and I wanted to make a video.

The nice thing about coconut husk fiber (coir or cocopeat) is that it is otherwise a waste product of the coconut-growing industry. So its environmental impact is small. But if it doesn’t work for you, use something else, of course.

Thank you Jennifer! The last 2 batches of Phals I have purchased, were clearly sprayed with fertilizer etc at the nursery. The orchids are covered in a spray of some sort. I have been trying to figure out if that is reason I have, I’m reasonably certain, stem rot on 3 of them. Some were slanted in the pot, etc. Dani I would love a tutorial or something about spraying orchids, stem rot. Roots that grow and then turn brown or blackish and stop growing. I do not water the new plants from the top. The spagna does get water from the bottom to the top new root growth. I just purchased these 2 weeks ago 😂. I don’t know if I should give up on them. I also found the original 2 first flower stems under the spagna 😢. ❤Carol PS I am not going to purchase any more from the nursery where I live.

When would I cut the flowering stalks when they have stopped flowering ?

Thank you for the excellent information. I am a novice orchid grower and your information has helped me. I especially like the part about what kind of media to grow an orchid in. I think mine was too fine, I am now going with bigger pieces that drain better based on your information. And the fertilizer info. was much appreciated.

Would keeping carnivorous plants near these other plants help to reduce the problem? I keep carnivorous in my house and outside to try and reduce bugs and I do think it helps but I don’t know if it’s just me being hopeful. I love the idea of being able to feed plants with our “pests”!

This is the one channel I will trust with orchid plant advice. Thank you for posting everything I need to know to keep my orchids healthy!

How often should you fertilize? , I have issues with that.

I have ordered orchids from Etsy and they arrived in good shape. I plan on ordering from the companies that sent them thru Etsy.

my orchid was doing fine but then her wig got snatched.. my orchid’s leaves are yellowing and idk why bc it’s roots are ok but maybe it’s because of possible salt build up? it’s yellow from the inside out and idk what to do- the new leaf started yellowing then the others started too-

i'm having the same issue with a couple phals too. in my opinion, it's time to "Cut The Rhizome" to promote new growth! some of my phals are quite old and need to be jump started again...??

Question. A phalaenopsis I saved from certain death, now that leaves are a sturdy green, is putting out really skinny new roots. What more do I need to do? It had very little to work with.

Have you ever had an oncidium that started new growths from 2 eyes and seemed to alternate growth spurts? Mine in particular is an unknown hybrid, being grown from a back bulb, so I have been waiting a long time for it, and am wondering if I should just let it be, or potentially remove one of the growths so it could focus its energy on one. 😬

Hello Dany, thank you so much for your tutorials, I am watching them even though I don’t have the orchids you’re talking about. I have 15 phals and they’re doing well, at least most of them. I have one that is not very robust, one that is straggling right now. It was a present from my sister and I would love to keep it forever. It looks dehydrated a bit, doesn’t have many roots left after repotting. It has a basal keiki, but this has a terminal spike. Right now it has a flower spike with 5 buds. Q: what should I do? I was thinking to cut the flower spike, but is a terminal spike, would this keiki survive? I could send you a picture but don’t know how. 😢 If you get my question and have an answer/ solution for my situation please let me know. PS - I know you are in the process of moving and this might not be a good time for you. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration

Noooo I just put rubbing alcohol on my Phal roots 😅😅😅 I did rinse off the rubbing alcohol on most of them like 30 seconds after application??? They’re ok. :/

I thought paid members wouldn't have to deal with the commercials...has that changed?
